Welcome to Loudoun Scene – your source for what’s going in the real estate scene in Loudoun County. Though this blog is new, the background behind it is years old. After being co-author of LoudounStats.com and LoudounForeclosures.com, I have decided to start a new chapter of blogging and discussing Loudoun County real estate here at Loudoun Scene while continuing on with LoudounForeclosures.com on my own.

I hope that you find the information here to be useful and applicable to you in whatever stage of real estate you’re in – just curious, renting, owning, selling, buying or just keeping up with what’s going on with the Loudoun County real estate market.

If you ever have a question or concern that has not been addressed by a post on the blog, just contact me and I’ll be happy to answer it for you and post it up on the blog for reference by you and other readers.

And please sign up for the RSS feed or email updates (right hand column of page) so that you can save time by getting the posts and comments sent directly to you.

Thanks for stopping by and joining in the discussion!

Our Broker, Simon Warner, Named “Realtor Of The Year”

March 16, 2008 by Danilo Bogdanovic

We’re proud to announce that our broker, Simon Warner (Market Advantage Real Estate in Sterling, Virginia), was named "2007 Realtor® Of The Year" by the Dulles Area Association of Realtors®. This honor is given to the one Realtor® that has demonstrated active involvement in the community; active participation in local, state and national Realtor® association events and functions; education; teaching; etc.

Along with being named "REALTOR® Of The Year", Simon Warner was inducted into the 2007 Honor Society.

To help present the award, Pat Jensen, President of the Virginia Association of Realtors® drove up from Richmond for the event.

In addition to being a broker/owner of Market Advantage Real Estate, LLC, Simon is heavily involved with Virginia Lions Football.

"The VALions are helping to focus young men on productive goals using football as a metaphor for life. It is the intent of our organization to combat gang involvement, racial and economic division, and other threats to Loudoun County Youth by offering guidance, coaching, support, and encouragement in an open environment based on Christian principles.

Virginia Athletics Lions is a community, youth football organization. While the program is founded on Christian principles, it is not an exclusively Christian team and is open to ALL – We do insist that players and their families operate with respect toward coaches staff and special guests, and that they follow our code of conduct as part of the team.

We are quite fortunate to have received significant support from former Washington Redskins; Eddie Mason, Joe Mickles, and Cliff Russell, who have all given freely of their time to train and encourage the players. In addition, we have received massive support from Gary and Amanda Kidwell of the Lower Loudoun Boys Football League. Most importantly we are getting players in the games, instead of leaving them on the bench as is the case in many HS teams, while offering a full schedule each season.

We will be competing in combines as well as full season and Turkey Bowl in the 2008 season.

We are always looking for more players, more sponsors, as well as additional options for practice and game facilities."

We are very happy for Simon and honored to be a part of his firm.

Washington, DC Metro Area #2 For Techies

May 31, 2007 by Danilo Bogdanovic

When it comes to the overall economic outlook for the DC metro area, including Loudoun County, job growth definitely plays a big part. It’s also a large factor in property values and the overall real estate market. With tech jobs being a fairly big chunk of the local job market, a report from Dice.com’s site earlier this month is definitely good news. Based on posted job openings, sorted by zip code, the Washington, DC metro area is number 2 on the list of the top 10 metropolitan areas for tech jobs.

1. New York/New Jersey – 11,044 postings

2. Washington, D.C. – 7,971 postings

3. Silicon Valley – 6,755 postings

4. Los Angeles – 4,546 postings

5. Chicago – 4,241 postings

6. Boston – 4,167 postings

7. Philadelphia – 3,156 postings

8. Dallas – 3,084 postings

9. Atlanta – 2,987 postings

10. Seattle – 2,309 postings

Overall, Dice.com reports a 119% jump in tech job postings over the past two years. Says Dale Welch at Winter, Wyman: "Competition for tech talent is intense, and it doesn’t look like it will lessen anytime soon." For talented techies battered by years of layoffs and cutbacks, it’s about time.
