Want To Live Close To Amenities? Check Out “Walk Score”

Walk_score

Want to live near shops and restaurants? Want to be in a Loudoun County neighborhood that’s close to the schools your children will be attending? Then check out Walk Score. Just go to the site, type in a street address and it’ll spit out a ranking based on how close ammenities are located.

Walk Score also lists (by name) the closest grocery store, restaurant, coffee shop (probably Starbuck’s), school, park, etc. And next to the name of the grocery store, restaurant, etc., it shows the exact mileage to it – down to the 100th of a mile.

In addition, Walk Score shows all of the amenities on a Google map so you can see how to get to each of them, as well as get a better visual feel for things.

Loudoun County Community Overview: River Creek

April 1, 2008 by Danilo Bogdanovic

River_creekRiver Creek is a planned community in Loudoun County located 30 miles west of Washington, DC and north of Leesburg at the where Goose Creek and the Potomac River come together. River Creek is recognized as the first gated country club community in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. River Creek is a joint venture project of The Tower Companies, Montgomery Development, and ClubCorp USA, Inc. River Creek began as a vision in 1987 and welcomed its first residents in 1997.

River Creek was originally known as Edward’s Ferry and its’ history stems back to the War of 1812 when the U.S government temporarily moved the capital to Leesburg. American soldiers and Virginia Militia kept guard against the threat of further British advance up the Potomac Valley along the area currently known as River Creek. Also, the Battle Of Ball’s Bluff in 1862 during the American Civil War occured on and around the current River Creek property.

River Creek has quite a bit of ammenities to offer. Some of those ammenities are:

  • 30,00 sq ft Main Clubhouse with private dining rooms, meeting facilities, bar/grill, amphitheatre, etc
  • 5,000 sq ft  Swim/Tennis facility
  • Playfields (soccer, softball/baseball, volleyball, child’s playgrounds, etc)
  • Parks and picnic areas
  • Children’s special activities and prgrams
  • Marina
  • 4.1 miles of nature trails

River Creek is also located within a couple of miles of Leesburg Premium Outlets and a new shopping center near the corner of Battlefield Parkway and Route 7.

River Creek Country Club offers a social membership which allows residents of River Creek to useRiver_creek_golf_course_2  all  the facilities except the golf facilities. There is also a full-priviledge golf membership available residents. For more information about membership, click here.

Properties in River Creek are on the higher-end of the price range compared to most of Eastern Loudoun County. Prices do vary greatly depending on the location within the community. The lots that back to the golf course, the Potomac River or Goose Creek definitely command a premium.

The community is pretty much built out though there are some lots available through NV Homes and Michael Harris in the Cattail Gate area of River Creek.

Loudoun County Community Overview: Belmont Greene

March 18, 2008 by Danilo Bogdanovic

Belmont Greene is a neighborhood development in Ashburn, Virginia located inbetween Belmont Ridge Road and Claiborne Parkway about 35 miles west of Washington, DC. The development is situated adjacent to Stone Bridge High School and Trailside Park. The Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail runs along the border of Belmont Greene and helps divide Belmont Greene and Belmont Country Club. A new extension of Trailside Park includes a walking path that connects to the W&OD trail.

The development consists of over 700 housing units and 65 acres of commercially zoned land that is currently being developed into a shopping center complete with a grocery store, fast food restaurants and a bank. There are two playgrounds and a small community pool that serves the needs of the Belmont Greene community.

Belmont Station Elementary School of Loudoun County Public Schools is located in Belmont Greene and serves the Ashburn Farm community. Construction (as of January 2007) has begun on Village Center at Belmont Greene, a large parcel of land that will be used for commercial interests, including a McDonald’s, a bank, and a shopping center with a Bloom grocery store as its anchor. Some residents of Belmont Greene have opposed this commercial construction, despite the plans being many years old, available to the public, and the land already being zoned "commercial".
